HERZBLUT research group receives DFG funding
ICR members Stefanie Dimmeler, Andreas Zeiher, Wesley Abplanalp, Sebstian Cremer and Jaya Krishnan receive DFG funding for their research on Clonal Hematopoiesis. As people age, clones of mutant blood cells can grow – a process that can be associated with serious disease consequences, for example an increased risk of cardiovascular disease or a pathological proliferation of blood cells as in leukemia. But what are biological processes underneath? This is what the research group “Clonal Hematopoiesis: Pathomechanisms and Clinical Consequences in Heart and Blood” is investigating. Scientists from basic research and the clinic are working together to understand exactly how the process takes place and how it is related to various diseases. The aim is to be able to use the new findings for therapeutic applications. The Spokesperson of this research group is Professor Dr. Michael Rieger.
